Vivian Valbuena - SHIFT Risk & Compliance Lead

SHIFT is excited to have Vivian Valbuena join us as our new SHIFT Risk & Compliance Lead.

Vivian Valbuena has over 25 years’ experience in various enterprise management, compliance, and business risk roles, in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, New York, and London. With deep expertise in the analysis, application, and embedding of domestic and international requirements, Vivian partners with clients to help them achieve their risk objectives taking a compliant, but fit-for-purpose approach.

To meet ever-changing regulatory, technological, and social expectations, the SHIFT team works with our customers to execute, integrate and implement risk management decisions.  Vivian can assist on multiple risk types, such as Compliance and Conduct, Operational Risk, ESG, Data Risk and Governance, Operational Resilience, Technology Risk, Change and Delivery Risk, Financial Crime and Third-Party Risk Management.  Vivian and the Shift Compliance and Risk team are dedicated to working with clients to achieve their desired strategic outcomes.

Most recently, Vivian has served as General Manager at Bank of New Zealand, overseeing compliance, operational risk, conduct risk, technology risk, operational resilience, financial crime, strategic execution and change risk, and has provided oversight and guidance, including the development and implementation of risk management measures across the company. Her team has led efforts to build and sustain a strong culture in which all employees understand the importance of managing risk to deliver responsible growth and serve customers and communities. Prior to joining BNZ in early 2019, she was the Chief Risk Officer, Compliance and Operational Risk and the AML/CFT Officer for Group AMP during Australia’s Royal Commission, overseeing Regulatory Affairs. Over the course of her career, she has held risk and business roles at Barclays, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, and Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
